When Darkness Comes

Afternoon, sun is high and falling.

Life jabbers on and the day is gently calling me to do the same.

Evening passes and the light creeps away so softly, so tenderly and without word.

It is you I once feared

When your eyes peered through the trees

Your arms stretched across the horizon until at last the cold wind blows and your black cape swings to hover over us like a hoarder of souls.

But I fear you no more for I know you now, Darkness!

I've tasted your blood of rage, your sweat of pain and the flesh of hatred that binds you.

So, come. Do you hear me? I said come!

Envelope me if you will and we will dance together

to the sweet song of Darkness.
